Living in Manchester and having Merlin Annual Passes you would think that we would visit Legoland Discovery Centre fairly often but that isn’t the case. We were last at Legoland Discovery Centre for the opening of the new Ninjago City Adventure play area so when we headed there last week to check out the new Great Lego Race VR experience I was really surprised to see just how much had changed.
It looks like they are already preparing Miniland for Halloween with the addition of some creepy characters and they have added some new buildings and scenes to the ones that have been there for a while.
There was a whole new Lego Space mission area including interactive areas where you take part in rocket building before exploring some alien landscapes. You could even take over Mission Control.
The reason we went was to check out the Great Lego Race VR Experience. My girls love playing on their VR at home so I knew that this was something that they would enjoy. The Great Lego Race VR Experience does have an additional charge which is £5 or £4 with the Merlin Annual Pass Discount. I felt that this was quite expensive for an extra experience didn’t take very long at all. The Great Lego Race VR Experience is one lap of the track in a moving seat with the VR headset on. Both of my girls really enjoyed it and would have happily done it again but the cost was very restrictive and I can imagine that after paying to go into Legoland Discovery Centre as well that this would definitely be a negative for a lot of families.
Overall, we had a brilliant time. We went at 4 pm on a Sunday afternoon so it was quiet which allowed my girls to be able to enjoy all of the experiences without having to queue. They loved playing in the Ninjago City Adventure Play area, going on the rides and watching the Lego Movie 4D adventure. We were there until it shut at 6 pm and would definitely recommend this later session if your kids don’t like crowds. They were still able to do everything in two hours.
