Meegos – Handmade collectables doing good in the world

My girls love collecting plush, in fact, they love collecting all sorts of things but plush is their absolute favourite thing to collect. I was first introduced to Meegos at the Toy Fair in January and I fell in love with them straight away.

Meegos are handmade crochet characters and the first series are all dogs. There are 6 Meegos Dogs and 12 mini Meegos pups. We received the 5″ Meego Poco who is a Pug and is described as calm, cuddly and very clumsy. The 5″ Meegos have family members in the Mini Meegos families, Poco has Piper and Doug in the Mini Meegos and they are very cute. You can find out more about the Meegos and Mini Meegos personalities, families and likes/dislikes by visiting mymeegos.com

Each of the Meegos plush is handmade in Bangladesh and it is organised through a workers co-operative which bring sustainable, regular and flexible employment to over 200 villages. The 5-inch Meegos character takes five hours to make and the Mini Meegos characters take 1.2 hours. The making of the first order of Meegos created jobs for over 4000 women.

The Mini Meegos come in little boxes but they are not in bags so if you are looking for a certain character then you will be able to find them easily enough. However, with them doing so much good in the world and looking super cute whilst they are at it, I think that we should just collect them all anyway.

The 5″ Meegos cost £12.99 and the mini Meegos cost £6.99 they are available from selected Sainsbury’s and Debenhams stores. Series 2, featuring Wild Animals will be available later this year.
