Now that the girls are getting old and wanting more of a challenge with their building so when we were given the opportunity to build the Meccano Ducati Monster 1200s we decided to give it a go.
The Meccano Ducati Monster 1200s is recommended for aged 10 plus so I knew that they would require quite a bit of help with the build. The set comes with all of the tools that you need as well as 292 parts that make up the bike with working steering and coil-spring suspension.
Before you begin building, the instruction leaflet shows some construction tips that help you learn how to use the tools provided. This was really handy as it helped me when the build got fiddly.
To help make it easier to ensure that you have the correct nuts and bolts the instruction booklet shows these in a ratio of 1:1 so if you are unsure of the piece that you need you can always put it on top of the picture to ensure that you have the right one.
Building the Meccano Ducati Monster 1200s took time and patience but was surprisingly completed in just 58 steps. The drawings are all very clear at showing you where to place the next piece and apart from a few areas where it was quite fiddly (due to my fat fingers!) the bike came together nicely.
The Meccano Ducati Monster 1200s set it advertised as a build and play set. Now I normally hate the girls playing with models that have taken a while to build as they always seem to be able to break them within minutes but with Meccano I don’t have that concern. The set is so well put together that I think they will be able to play with it for a long time to come before I have tightened some of the nuts and bolts.
The Ducati Monster 1200s comes with a kickstand included which means that not only is it great for playing with but it can also be stood up independently to be displayed on a shelf for safe keeping.
