We all get a bit of the January blues after Christmas and that is totally understandable after all the fun of Christmas is out of the way and yet the weather is still terrible. Whenever I feel a bit down I look for some quick and easy ways to refresh the space I live in and the new year is the ideal time as the shops still have lots of sales on. One of the most important rooms of the house to me is my bedroom and now Christmas is over it is the ideal time to give it a bit of a makeover and focus on comfort and relaxation. Check out the below tips on how to makeover your bedroom on a budget this new year.
Duvet Sets
Buying new duvet covers may seem a bit extravagant but you will love the feel of brand new bedding when you slip under the covers. The great thing is that they won’t break the bank and they can completely change the look and feel of your bedroom. Opt for a colour that contrasts with your walls if you want it to stand out or go for a muted tone for that sense of peace. I definitely think that people underestimate how much a simple change of duvet covers can make a big difference to the look and feel of a bedroom. Whilst you are at it get yourself some new pillows and if your duvet has seen better years use the January sales to your advantage and grab a new one. You will be thanking yourself as you snuggle down to sleep.
Accessories
Adding some artwork to the walls, putting up a mirror or even changing your bedside lamp can all have a huge impact on how your room feels. When we did our bedroom makeover at the start of lockdown I finally got around to putting up some Star Wars art that I had been collecting and I absolutely love how it transformed my bedroom.
Declutter
Bedrooms are for sleeping and so often they are cluttered with stuff everywhere. January is a great time to clear out your cupboards, sort through your drawers and give your shelves and sides a good clean. If you have not used the item or had enjoyment from it in the last year then it is probably time to get rid of it. If you are not sure then pop it in a box, store it in the loft or garage and then in the summer if you haven’t missed it why not sell it or donate it to charity.
Creature comforts
At this time of year, I crave snuggly blankets and comfy pillows and this year is perfect for that as the teddy bear blanket trend is available everywhere. Drape one over your bed for when you want to wrap yourself up within it and read a good book and get matching cushions to really make your bed look and feel like the comfiest place on earth.
Aromatherapy
Did you know that the way a room smells can have a big impact on your emotional state? Whether you want to use wax melts, burn candles or even use a plug-in air freshener make sure your room smells amazing when you walk in and you will immediately feel joy.
So there you go some quick, easy and cheap tips to makeover your bedroom and create a place you can’t wait to dream in.
