The great thing about visiting a new town is that you get to really explore all of the fantastic places you can visit. With the May School holidays on the horizon a trip away to another city is definitely on the cards and being able to stay in a cheap yet decent hotel certainly adds to the appeal. The Holiday Inn Leicester is perfectly located to explore the city and here are a list of the top ten places you should visit as a family.
The Space Centre
This place has something for all ages and it loads of fun too. Easy to get too and something that can fill your whole day with the added bonus that you know the kids will be learning something even when they think they are just having fun. Check out this post by Cats Yellow Days for more information.
Rockingham Castle was build under the instruction of William the Conquer and is steeped in history from the Normans all the way through the civil war, medieval times and the Victorians. Add to that the 12 acres of beautiful gardens ranging from manicured rose gardens to a gorgeous wild flower garden it is a dream for history enthusiasts and photographers alike.
Twinlakes Theme park
Although not well known Twinlakes Theme park is huge with loads to see and do. They also have lots of special events happening particularly during school holidays so it is always worth having a look on their website. As well as the theme park there is also a waterpark so it is great for those boiling hot summer days we are all hoping for. Check out this post by Kids Days Out Reviews for more information.
Abbey Pumping Station
I don’t know about you but when it comes to toilet humour my kids are fascinated. The Abbey Pumping Station is Leicesters Museum of Science and Technology and contains lots to look at including a fabulous talking toilet, you know the kids will love it.
Conkers is a great place to visit no matter what the weather is like. With lots to do both inside and out you will never hear the words “I’m bored” and not only that but entrance is fairly cheap too.
Gorse Hill City Farm
A 20 acre farm just outside the city centre. Gorse Hill City farm is a great place to spend a few hours. With over 100 animals on the farm and the chance to feed them too the kids will love it.
With over 500 animals to look at, a penguin parade plus lots of different feeding times and talks to enjoy you can easily spend a whole day here and if the weather turns you can also head into the soft play area for a while.
If the sun is shining them head to Abbey Park. This huge park boasts the ruins of an abbey, a boating lake, a river and a pets corner plus victorian gardens and lots of space for a picnic and a run around.
If you love birds then you can’t miss a visit to Tropical Birdland which houses a huge variety of birds. In fact there are over 250 birds here. With a woodland walk, a parrot path and lots of walk through enclosures you will be able to get up close and personal with some of the birds. There is also a play park where the kids can burn off some of their energy.
