Now I don’t camp, I like hotels, nice beds and toilets. However we did just spend a few days over at the Jollydays glamping site in York.
We stayed in a Lodge tent with had two bedrooms with real beds, a kitchen, a bathroom with toilet and a living room with a sofa bed. I have to say that it was rather lovely and very spacious.
Set in a gorgeous forest with the leaves turning brown all around us and with rabbits and birds rustling in the leaves we really did feel far away from it all. Especially with the lack of plug sockets or phone signal!
Once inside the tent the decor was shabby chic and lovely. The attention to detail with the fabrics, the bunting and the small accessories really made it feel like home and the wood burning stove added a lovely feel to the tent.
We also had breakfast provided to us which was delicious. It consisted of fresh bread, butter, tomatoes, eggs, mushrooms, bacon and sausages as well as tea, coffee and milk. We really enjoyed cooking it on the camp stove and getting in the camping spirit whilst still being in a clean kitchen space.
We really enjoyed exploring the grounds, finding wild mushrooms and playing in the play area. The part that the girls enjoyed most was making new friends around the communal camp fire and learning to toast marshmallows for the very first time.
Now it isn’t all good news, the mornings were frightfully cold although it was October so that was to be expected and we did have a slight issue with the bed that had some broken slats but they were fixed within hours of being reported. My one real gripe would be that although we were booked in for four nights we only received two nights worth of wood and kindling. I think that if you are booked for four nights then four nights worth of wood should be included and although it wasn’t expensive to get more with no other way to heat your tent I class it as an essential. I cant imagine the people who booked for two nights only got one nights worth of wood and I doubt the third and fourth nights were any cheaper so it just seems a bit silly.
However we all had a great time and the girls really enjoyed a completely different type of holiday to any we have ever done before. We would definitely Glamp again although maybe next time we will do it in a warmer month!
