Now I have to admit that this was the first time I have ever had a Kobo. My E-reader loyalties have been placed elsewhere but the idea of an E-Reader that I can use in the bath or by the pool without worrying got me intrigued. Now don’t get me wrong I love a good book but they are heavy and I can only carry one at a time so an E-Reader suits my travelling lifestyle a lot more. Plus I read really fast and I don’t have the storage space for all the books that I want to own.
As this was the first time I had used a Kobo I needed to get used to the commands and the menu but the quick tour showed me everything I needed to know to get started.
The menu was simple enough to use and I liked the fact I could preview pages which meant I could look at how complicated a book was for Elizabeth before I downloaded it. I had decided that Elizabeth would be the main user of this E-Reader as I trusted her with this more than with my current one. The fact it is waterproof meant that she would be less likely to break it as she has a habit of spilling drinks. We had been talking about getting Elizabeth (7) an E-reader for a while and although she has a tablet she would always end up playing games on it rather than reading. She isn’t a lover of books but she enjoys reading so an E-reader is the perfect device for her. We were able to find quite a few books that she would enjoy although I was disappointed that I couldn’t sort by price in the menu. I would much prefer to download lots of free books for her to try out to find authors that she enjoys. You can do this on the browser version of the Kobo store though so its not all bad.
Elizabeth really liked the images that were displayed and didnt seem to mind that they were in black and white. The battery on the Kobo Aura H20 seems to last for ages and I suppose this is mainly to do with the brightness settings. We are able to use it easily at 30% whilst indoors during the day but it is easy to change in the drop down menu.
Elizabeth has never read so much as she does now that she has the Kobo Aura H20 and she promises me that when I want it for our holidays I can have it back. In the mean time, I am happy to see that it is encouraging her to read more whilst I am satisfied that she won’t kill it. I just need to find a nice robust case for it now.
