Wishing upon a Starlight

When we were in the hospital with Elizabeth we were approached to refer Elizabeth for a wish with the Starlight Foundation. I had only heard of them as they provided the large TV and console cabinets to the wards in Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital.

My first reaction was that Elizabeth was not sick enough to have a wish provided by a charity like this but I was wrong. I didn’t want to admit that having Leukemia meant that she is seriously ill. Luckily I decided that she deserved to have the chance.

The children have to choose their own wishes and they have to choose three, each from a different category. No matter how much I tried to convince her she did not want to go to Disneyland and her first choice wish was to spend Christmas day with Billy Bear at Butlins. She also chose to hand feed giraffes and meet Dora at Nickelodeon land.

The clock kept ticking and we didn’t hear anything so I scrimped and saved and paid off our holiday to spend Christmas at Butlins, last week we found out that her wish will now be granted.

A few phone calls to Butlins and the amount we have paid has been transferred to a holiday later next year and Starlight have taken over our booking and added on a few extras plus they are paying for our travel and giving Elizabeth some spending money.

Starlight foundation support and help so many children with serious and terminal illnesses and I wanted to find a way to help them too. Starlight enable donations through Give as you live which is now installed on my laptop and I hope some of you might consider it too. If you shop online this enables you to donate to your charity of choice without any cost to you.
