Minecraft – How do you play it and should I allow my kids to play?

Picture

As a parent, the world of Minecraft has been a constant feature of my kid’s conversations for quite a while now and I know that I still have quite a bit to learn about this fantastic game that seems to inspire my kids to use their imaginations and learn some amazing skills. Although I don’t know everything I do know how daunting it can be as a parent to not even know where to start when it comes to Minecraft

How can my kids play Minecraft?

Minecraft comes in three different versions, the PC/MAC version, the console (Xbox One and 360, PS3 and PS4) and pocket edition (tablets/ipads).  The cheapest way to play in on pocket edition but you will soon find that your kids want the other versions. Our girls have all three!

What is Minecraft all about?

Now, this is the question that a lot of parents don’t understand. Minecraft doesn’t have a storyline, it doesn’t have a finish line to cross and is instead an open-ended game that is only limited by the player’s imagination. There are other ways to play as well by connecting to a multiplayer server. I would recommend using Hypixel for this, you can find out more by visiting Hypixel.net/play for more information on how to do this. By connecting to the server you will be able to play Sky wars, Smash Heroes and Build Battle plus loads more mini-games.

Should I let my kids play Minecraft?

Minecraft has a lot of benefits that kids don’t think about when they play and we really shouldn’t tell them either. It is educational, helps with problem-solving skills and it helps with computer skills which we all know they will need when they are older.

How can I help my kid to play?

There are so many things that your kids might need help with including mods and skins. I found the minemum website to be really helpful at talking me through things in a language I could understand so it’s definitely a good starting point.

Minecraft has been around for quite a while now and we love it in our house. If you really want to understand why your kids love it give it a go for yourself and I guarantee you will soon be building yourself an awesome house and working out how to decorate it.
