Malcolm Sargent House – Making memories special

This week we are fortunate enough to be spending the week together in Scotland in the wonderful Malcolm Sargent House which is run by Clic Sargent. The house is built up of small apartments with bedrooms and a bathroom, a dining room, 2 lounges, a play room, games room and more. It offers a free break to families of children who are suffering or who have suffered with cancer in the last three years. It is our first visit to Malcolm Sargent House but I already know it will not be our last.

The house is run by a few key staff and volunteers and they provide all the meals as well as an entertainment programme which is varied and yet gives plenty of down time for you to spend as a family.

Being in a house with other families of ill children means that you have all got something
in common and with families at different stages of treatment it is a great support network. It also means the children can bond easily. Elizabeth has taken a particular liking to a little boy who has an aggressive form of cancer who is bald and has a nasogastric tube. I think she can relate to him and keeps telling him that when he learns to eat again his tube will be able to come out.

So far this week we have been at a local festival celebrating the life of Robert Burns, we have been on a bike ride along the coast and yesterday we visited a local farm park.

For me being back in Scotland has had a calming effect, yes my inbox is bulging, my to do list ever growing and yet I don’t mind. It will get dealt with eventually right?

I love being by the sea and with our bedroom windows facing the water we can hear the waves against the shore. I have not slept this well in months and I am really feeling rested. We still have a few more days of fun up here before we head back down south and with the Science centre and Edinburgh Zoo still on the agenda I know we have even more fantastic memories to be made.
