How to style your garden for a dinner party

The sun is finally shining and for the first time today, I was greeted by the smell of a bbq being used by one of our neighbours. Looking around my own garden the idea of having guests over for a dinner party filled me with dread. Most gardens have been neglected over the winter months and after a quick succession of storms, we all have a lot of maintenance to catch up on. After a good tidy up and a whizz around with the lawn mover, it will be time to think about this year’s style trends and how to style your garden for a dinner party.

Easy ways to style your garden for a spring time dinner party

1. Comfortable Garden furniture

One of the first considerations when planning a garden dinner party will be where you will all sit and how you are going to eat. A mix of garden seats would be best to ensure that everyone feels comfortable. For the last few years swing seats have been popular and that is not going away this year. When deciding how to style your garden including a swing seat is a great choice. Add in some pallet style furniture for that instagrammable seating look. Look at making the outside area an extension of your indoor living area and ensure that you add some creature comforts like cushions and blankets. This will soon become your favourite spot to entertain or relax.

2. Ways to keep warm

As lovely as a patio heater is on a chilly summer night there is nothing better for me than a proper wood fire in a fire pit. There are so many styles to choose from that it should be easy to find the right one to make the style of your garden. A fire pit continues to be a garden trend for 2022 and you can find ones that are made of natural materials or ones in stylish designs. With so many options available your fire pit should become an integral part of your garden design rather than just an afterthought.

3. Lighting the night

As the nights draw to a close you don’t want to move inside just because it has got dark. There are so many lighting options that you can choose that will enhance the style of your garden. From outdoor string lights draping across the seating area creating a fake ceiling of stars to solar lanterns around the edges and even candles burning on the table. Lights can enhance and completely change the feel of your outdoor space so finding the right vibe for your garden is important. Whether you are looking to choose your lights based on design or practicality there is nothing to say you can’t do both.

4. A touch of spring

Flowers are only just beginning to bloom so your garden may not have any splashes of colour just yet. Adding a vase of flowers to your table before your dinner party will help to add that little touch of spring that we all need. You could also look at planting some containers or hanging baskets with some hardy early bloomers from your local garden centre to get that splash of colour into your garden early.
