2022 is already looking like a bumper year for video game releases. Many anticipated sequels, prequels, and a few new names on the block are all on the horizon over the next few months. Which are the ones that you should look forward to the most, though? Whether you like to play the best online slots or video games, there are a few games on this list that you will want to get your hands on as soon as possible.
God of War: Ragnarok
Easily one of the biggest games we are getting this year, God of War: Ragnarok, is the sequel to the 2018 release God of War. We find Kratos thrust into a new battle against the gods and goddesses of Nordic mythology.
Details are still scarce, but we know this game will see Kratos and Atreus deal with the revelations of the last game, seek help from the God of War Tyr, and have to face Thor and Freya finally. Ragnarok is upon us.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus
Pokemon Legends: Arceus is a new spin on the Pokemon series. We will find ourselves in an almost ancient time in the Sinnoh region, before the event of Pokemon Diamon and Pearl, in an area known as Hisui.
Your job is to explore, discover and capture Pokemon, creating the very first Pokedex of the region. It isn’t known how Arceus will feature in the game, but clearly, he will play a significant role. This game is ideal for Nintendo Switch players to take with them on the go and plays to both old and new Pokemon fans.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum
Not much is known about the upcoming Lord of the Rings-based game, but it seems like it will be a first-person action/adventure game, with players taking on the role of Gollum. We do know that this game will take place before the events of The Hobbit and the original trilogy.
Considering Gollum’s role in first finding the ring again and its travels, this game will give great insight into a journey, a character that many people don’t know much about.
Hogwarts Legacy
We are finally getting another Harry Potter/Hogwarts game, this time, Hogwarts Legacy. The game is set a number of years before the Harry Potter books, and you will play the role of a student at the school. This is one of the video game releases that I am really looking forward to this year.
What makes Hogwarts Legacy different is the fact that it will play similarly to World of Warcraft. You will have a vast world to explore, creatures and enemies to fight, you can upgrade your character and find gear. This new spin should revitalise the Harry Potter game genre.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
Another game that we know barely anything about right now is a tentatively titled sequel to Breath of the Wild. We have seen a little bit of gameplay footage released that shows us Zelda’s face, the world, etc.
The little we do know is that the developers will take advantage of the world they have already created and use pieces they didn’t use in previous titles to create an entirely new story.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
The DC games have certainly performed better than Marvel games, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League looks like an exciting prospect. Set in the same world, Batman: Arkham, and taking place after Arkham Knight, the Suicide Squad is tasked with a serious mission.
Brainiac has taken control of the minds of some of the Justice League, including Superman, the Flash, and Green Lantern. Wonder Woman is unaffected and calls on the Suicide Squad to take out the Justice League members, causing mayhem and death across the city.
Horizon Forbidden West
The highly anticipated sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn sees us head, you guessed it, West. You play as Aloy, a young huntress who travels west to find the source of a plague that kills everything it infects.
The sequel will see you come across brand new and unfamiliar areas, enemies, monsters and machines that you will need to defeat to get the answers you need. Considering Horizon Zero Dawn’s success, we have high hopes for Forbidden West.
These are only a handful of the incredible game releases we can expect this year, and if this list is anything to go by, it will be nearly impossible to stick to just one.
