What we ate last week and planning for the week ahead

Ok so it isnt really a meal planning post because although we followed a plan we have already eaten half of these meals but I thought you might be interested in it anyway.

I am trying to do a no spend period, I am not sure how long it will last but I want it to be a minimum of a month but realistically I would like to keep going as long as I can. This is because I am terrible at impulse buying.

My no spend activity does not include birthday gifts and if we need something for the kids like shoes etc I will try to source these from charity shops before chosing to buy new. This isn’t so much about saving money but more about changing my habits as I find myself browsing online shops for absolutely no reason and that is never a good thing.

So on to last weeks meal plan. I did a large food shop just after Christmas and stocked my freezer with fresh meat and my cupboards with all of the staple foods that we use for the meals that we enjoy as a family. We will not be missing out or eating basic meals but instead, we are just planning in advance to prevent take-aways and waste.

  • Monday – Chicken Ramen
  • Tuesday – Chicken Fajitas
  • Wednesday – Rotisserie Chicken and chips
  • Thursday – Beef Stew
  • Friday – Pork Stroganoff and rice
  • Saturday – Shepherds Pie
  • Sunday – Chicken and Prawn Paella

So what do we have on the menu for the week ahead?

  • Monday – Mince Beef Burritos
  • Tuesday – Chicken Curry and Naan
  • Wednesday – Gammon Steaks and Mash
  • Thursday – Spaghetti Bolognese
  • Friday – Homemade Nandos chicken and spicy rice
  • Saturday – Steak, asparagus and Chips (Husbands birthday)
  • Sunday – Pasta Carbonara and garlic bread

We actually have a long list of meals we can make based on the ingredients we have (apart from fresh vegetables) ready so that each Sunday we can pull together the menu for the week. To prevent any issues regarding running out of time/fancying something different we also make sure that have a couple of low fuss meals such Ribs that we all love and only need throwing in the oven. These take less time than it does for a takeaway to arrive and about as much effort so are great alternative meals to keep just in case.

How do you plan your meals?
