Removing clutter in your kid’s bedroom with Bunk Beds, Self Storage and more

Look at any room in your home and your child’s bedroom is often a space that can become cluttered with toys, clothes, books and school supplies. As your children grow, their needs also change and so the room becomes more cluttered.

Your job as a parent is to keep the clutter down because clutter can actually cause your children anxiety and stop them from sleeping.

Sleep expert Adeel ul-haq from bedroom company Bunk Beds says “A cluttered space can keep your mind feeling busy and stops you from relaxing in your room. This is very important for children as sleep is vital to their development, so if you have clutter you need to get rid of it.”

Getting rid of clutter however is easier said than done and one tip the experts have recommended is to buy furniture that can free up more space, think of ottomans, tables with in built storage, beds with storage or even bunk beds or gaming beds as these combine multiple items into one so that you can save space in your children’s room.

Shelving is also a brilliant option as you can stack shelves vertically and put items on them, however don’t clutter them too much as once again this can make the room feel busy and not relaxing.

Getting your children involved in using this storage can also help them to become more organised as they grow and it can help you as the parent too because you don’t have to keep picking up after them. Teaching your children responsibility early on is also going to help you in the long run.

Removing the clutter also makes the space safer as you are less likely to fall over scattered toys or clothing.

If your bed doesn’t have built in storage and you don’t want to buy a new bed, consider buying plastic storage containers. Plastic storage containers are a great way of storing items for busy parents as they are see through and you can see all the items in them easily. While cardboard boxes can also work, they do make finding your items a little more difficult.

If you have done all the above, but still don’t have enough space you then want to consider hiring a self-storage unit.

Hiring a self storage unit

Self storage is a godsend to families as it allows you more storage space without the need of upsizing your home. Upsizing your home in this economy isn’t affordable and it can be stressful too, however a storage unit can be a simple, yet affordable option.

Scott Evans from Cardiff Self Storage company Pink Storage says “If you have run out of room in your home a storage unit is the next best thing. A storage unit can be as big or as small as you need and is much more affordable than adding an extension onto the home or buying a bigger house.”

“When hiring a storage unit look around your local storage companies for the best prices because some of them will offer good deals to new customers and you can get a lot of money off your storage, also it’s worth getting in touch with companies and asking if they have any smaller units as most companies may have storage lockers that you can also use that aren’t advertised as much.”

Keeping your child’s room clean

While smarter furniture choices and storage units are excellent solutions for reducing clutter in your child’s room, they aren’t the only solution. Keeping your kids room clean and clutter free requires consistent effort, and it’s better to get a routine in place rather than leaving everything pile up.

One way to keep the clutter away is by having a place for every item. You can do this by labelling your drawers and storage spaces so you know where everything goes. This encourages your children to then tidy their own room, a practice that will no doubt help them later on in life.

As a parent you should also spend time each month to have a decluttering routine and you should go through your child’s belongings to access what is still needed. Throw out clothes that no longer fit or donate them to your local charity shop. Toys that are no longer needed or books your children have outgrown can also be donated. This act of decluttering can also teach your children the skills of letting go.

Encouraging daily routines can also help your children become more organised, simple tasks like making your bed, putting toys away before bedtime and keeping their school supplies in order will both help them to become more organised as they grow up and it will help you to keep their room clean.
