Coral Island – a weather proof fun family day out in Blackpool

Back during the Easter Holidays on a clear yet cold day, we headed up to Blackpool to spend some time at Coral Island. Coral Island is an indoor amusement centre on the seafront that we have walked through many times, mostly to use the bathrooms but we had never stopped to spend any time. You see I thought Coral Island was just another building full of amusements but I couldn’t be more wrong.

Although Coral Island is home to lots of arcade machines there is so much more to discover that we actually managed to spend over three hours in there without even realising it!

The first thing we did when we arrived was head to Captain Jacks for some lunch. Coral Island is home to four different restaurants and the best thing is that kids eat free all day every day. That means for each adult meal one child gets to eat for free which really does make a difference. I enjoyed some delicious ribs whilst Alison had sausage and chips and I was really impressed with her portion as sometimes we find kids meals can be a bit small for her now she is older. We also visited the traditional chippy for dinner before we headed back to Manchester!

One of the things that I was really impressed with was the variety of games available in Coral Island. It wasn’t just a repeat of the same games taking up all the room. Most of the games paid out tickets and my girls had great fun collecting them all so they could cash them in at the Treasure chests and collect a variety of prizes. The cost of these in tickets was really generous in comparison to similar places we have been so I was really happy with the stuff they won.

As well as the restaurants and the arcades, Coral Island is also home to a few rides including the Ghost Train which Alison (8) said was really scary.

As a family, we highly recommend Coral Island, not just as a great place to visit for something to eat (although definitely do that) but also as a destination to plan into your day to get out of the bright sun or escape from the rain. Coral Island has something for everyone so why not check out the website and sign up for their newsletter so you can be kept informed about the offers they have available.
