Why you should consider a cruise as your next family holiday

Before I headed on my very first cruise I wasn’t sure that it was right for us as a family, I didn’t know what to expect and thought that we might end up feeling a bit stuck on the ship. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Cruising is the ideal family holiday and I am going to share with you my top reasons on why you should consider a cruise for your next family break.

Visit lots of new places

It doesn’t matter where you choose to cruise, the fact that you visit multiple ports and sometimes multiple countries means that you get to experience lots of different places and different cultures. I have cruised around Europe and around the Bahamas and they each have their own charm. Our Bahamas cruise was only a few days but we got to see two amazing islands. We visited Nassau town for some shopping and spent a day kayaking through the crystal clear water seeing rays and various other fish. When we cruised around Europe we stopped at a different city every morning and I loved waking up and looking out to see where we were. In some ports, we booked excursions such as a trip to see the leaning tower of Pisa and in other ports, we just walked off the ship to explore the local town. The one thing to remember when cruising is you don’t have to get off the ship, in fact, you can do as much or as little as you want.

You will not be bored

I was amazed at the quantity and variety of entertainment on the ships. There were comedians, quizzes, dance classes, theatre-style shows and bingo. There was even an art show! The kids were also entertained. Each age group had its own kid’s club area and an entertainment schedule to match. Both of my girls loved spending time in kids club and we hardly saw them at times. The evening shows were also amazing to watch and the quality of these shows was a lot higher than I would have expected.

Variety of food

We all know that going abroad with kids can make feeding them difficult. We have not had these issues when cruising because there is always so much variety. If you don’t fancy getting dressed up for dinner then you can just grab something from the buffet deck or try one of the more relaxed restaurants. Best of all most of the food is included in the price so the kids (and you) can try a variety of things without worrying about the cost. This also means unlimited ice cream for the kids which they absolutely loved.

Family-Friendly Facilities

Some cruise ships are specifically designed with families in mind and you can really tell. They have onboard water parks, great sports facilities and the latest technology. You can find cinemas, 3D experiences, games rooms, crazy golf and even zip wires. Research your cruise and decide on what ship you want to spend your time on before booking.

Now I have told you more about cruising as a family why not take a look at these amazing P and O cruises and choose your ship and destination for your next holiday.
