Phonics Fun with Biff, Chip and Kipper – 3DS and 2DS

Phonics Fun with Biff, Chip and Kipper is a learning game that has been designed for the Nintendo 3DS (you can use it on the 2DS), which should hopefully help your child practise their letters and sounds using their favourite handheld console and characters that will be familiar from school.

We were able to test volumes 1 & 3 for Phonics Fun.  Alison used volume 1 and Elizabeth used volume 3.  We already have quite a collection of Biff, Chip & Kipper reading books so the children already know the characters and graphics which helps to make the transition easier.

Volume 1
(Levels 1, 1+ and 2) is very much about recognising and practicing sounds. It starts with sounds that you hear in everyday life and then moves on to the correct phonetic sound and starts to introduce some of the alternative ways of spelling a sound.

Volume 2  (Levels 3 and 4) is the next step up and children continue practising new sounds and are introduced to more alternative spellings of certain sounds. It then revises all the sounds already introduced, before moving onto further alternative spellings as well as different pronunciations.

Volume 3 (Levels 5, 5M and 6) is the level that Elizabeth is currently at. She is just below average with her reading although is quickly improving and this game will certainly help. At this level children should be able to put together their knowledge of all the alternative spellings and pronunciations they have learnt so far. The exercises help children reinforce the link between sounds and the different ways they can be written. Volume 3 also emphasizes on increasing the child’s confidence and fluency through reading a range of Non-Fiction books.

Kids love having the chase to play on the 3DS or 2DS and now we can let them play safe in the knowledge that they are learning too.

A fantastic game to help your child progress at school, or to help support their learning or in our case to give confidence in their reading abilities.
