A few weeks ago I was contacted by Prestige Cookware to discuss what my kitchen secret is. They have been sponsoring the new Secret Chef programme on ITV and have launched a fabulous social competition for all of their followers to share their kitchen secret for the chance to win a complete cookware and bakeware set.
So what is my Kitchen Secret? Well for me the secret to my success in the kitchen has to be my gadgets that make my life easier. I have always been a fan of being able to place something in my slow cooker and come back later to an amazing meal but recently I started to use a pressure cooker instead. A pressure cooker helps to reduce the cooking time by cooking under high pressure and this has been a game changer for us. Meals that usually require a lot of time or pre-preparation are now easy to create on a weekday evening. One example of this is Pulled Pork. We normally only cook pulled pork at the weekend as it takes so long but with the help of my pressure cooker, I can now cook a joint in around an hour.
Now we all have our own recipes for Pulled pork so I won’t tell you mine in quantities but I tend to use a pulled pork rub or spice sachet along with a jar of passata and some balsamic vinegar. I then bought the pressure cooker up to high pressure before simmering for an hour. After that hour I released the pressure, removed the lid and shredded the meat. To thicken the sauce, I then simmered the contents of the pressure cooker for another 15 minutes whilst preparing the salad, cheese and other accompaniments.
Being able to cook a family favourite meal that usually takes around 4 to 5 hours in just over one hour is a game changer and it isn’t just pulled pork that I can use the pressure cooker for. I am looking forward to testing out some of our other family favourites such as Beef Stew, Chicken Casserole and Chilli.
So my kitchen secret is all about saving time, what is yours? Make sure you enter the Prestige Cookware competition for your chance to win the fabulous cookware and bakeware set. Also, let me know if you can think of any other recipes that I should try in the Pressure cooker.
