I find Fathers Day to be one of the hardest days for buying a gift, men are just so awkward to buy for. It’s fine for me to buy something for my husband for his birthday or Christmas but to buy him something from the girls that shows him how much they think of him as a father is basically impossible. I put a shout out to some of my favourite companies to see if they could give me some ideas on what would make the ideal Fathers Day gift and they did not disappoint. I am sure if you are struggling as well then this will give you some inspiration.
When it comes to Fathers Day Cards I like to let the kids choose one each that they think is suitable for their Dad. They are not always the card I would have selected but it is nice to know that it is something that they chose. Hallmark sent me a bundle of cards to take a look at and they really do show the diversity of the range.
Food and Drink
They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and if that is the case for the man in your life then these products could be the perfect choice for you. For the distinguished gentlemen, you can get some Cockburn’s Special Reserve Port. Available in leading supermarkets for just £12 it looks like an expensive gift whilst being kind to your pockets. I have also been reliably informed that for the less distinguished gentleman that it is good in a cheeky vimto, whatever that is.
I am a huge fan of chocolate and I think that you can not go wrong with a good box of chocolates as a gift so the ultimate collection by Lily O’Brien is an ideal Fathers Day gift. Although if you want them to share it might be an idea to splash out for a bigger box.
Elizabeth Shaw is another great chocolate maker, although I think for the more mature palette. The Amaretto flutes are to die for and as much as the salted caramel crisps should have been a Fathers Day gift they didn’t last much longer after this photo was taken as they were very moreish. If these are on your must-buy list then I recommend picking yourself up an extra box.
If you are looking for some nice bottles of wine then Willow & Stone produce a great variety of white and rose in still and fizzy varieties. Available in Co-op and B&M these refreshing and easy drink wines have a low price point and a resealable zork to keep it fresh.
We all know of the brand Zippo but did you know that they have recently released a range of superb leather products? They have produced rucksacks, wallets, passport holders and more. We received one of the Zippo canvas and leather trim wallets and I have to say I was very impressed with the quality and definitely recommend them.
I love men wearing cufflinks and Dobell have a fantastic variety of cufflinks so you can find a set to match any personality. I love these smartphone cufflinks which look really cool and are really well made.
If you want to get a gift that keeps on giving then the Bic Shave Club might be the perfect gift. With a starting offer available at the moment for just £3 and then either a monthly or every other month subscription depending on how often they shave this is a great Fathers Day gift. The first delivery will include the Shaver handle and 1 blade and the subsequent deliveries will include 4 new blades. You can even choose from a 3 blade or 5 blade razor so you can really personalise the subscription.
As a Stationery lover, I am a firm believer that there is a stationery gift for every occasion and Fathers Day is a great opportunity to buy a gift that will be loved and used for a long time. Pen Heaven sent me this gorgeous Parker Pen gift set in stainless steel which includes a fountain pen and a ballpoint pen. The set, which costs less than £30, comes in a stunning gift box and if you wanted to make it even more special then you can pay for an engraving which will mean that these pens will be treasured forever.
A bit of fun
If you are buying gifts for a Father who has never grown up then you can have a bit of fun.
If you wanted to bring back a bit of nostalgia then the new design Rubiks cube will have him cursing as he tries to solve it and trying to show the kids how to do it.
The Paladone Shop is one of my go-to gifting websites and home to this Grumpy socks and Mug set. A great quality gift that is a little tongue in cheek but perfect for the grumpy old man in your family.
If you are looking for something a little bit different then why not take a look at Itty Bittys from Hallmark. Available in lots of different characters including Star Wars, Marvel, Disney and even ranges such as The Flintstones and Snoopy. You are sure to find the perfect character in Itty Bitty form.
If your dad has a sense of humour (or maybe he needs one) then The Grumpy Old Git book and the I love Dad book from The Odd Squad are perfect bathroom reading. These small books feature comical images that will get even the grumpiest git smiling and laughing along. The I Love Dad book is currently only £1.30 on Amazon Prime!
If the man you are buying for is a bit of a geek then these next few items will be right up his street.
This Groovy Harry Potter Robe is super soft and currently available in Argos for just £15. It is made from a soft fleece material which means it washes well and stays in good condition and has a Hogwarts crest sewn on to the front. In Gryffindor colours and with pockets as well as a belt included this is a great Fathers Day gift at an amazing price.
A great gift from Paladone, this PAC-MAN alarm clock makes a great addition to a desk or to a bedside table. The classic arcade design looks great and features original gameplay sounds. This battery operated alarm clock features time and date on the screen and takes two AA batteries.
Another fantastic Paladone product, this Thor’s hammer bottle opener keyring is solid metal and is quite heavy for a keyring but the quality is undeniable. This is a great gift for a Marvel fan.
If you think that the man in your life needs a new phone then the Alcatel A5 LED smartphone could be perfect. With a programmable light display on the back of the phone that can be set to a different colour or pattern for different notification types. This 4G 5.2 inch HD display android phone features a 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. The Alcatel A5 LED is available Sim Free from Vodafone.
The Great Outdoors
If the man you are buying for loves looking after his car them these Armor All products will make a great gift. Add in a nice cloth and it will make a great gift.
Does the man in your life like to take control of the BBQ? If so then this Man Bib Apron from Able Labels looks great and can even be personalised to make it extra special.
My husband loves getting new clothes and I don’t treat him often so getting him a nice North Face T Shirt for Fathers Day makes an ideal gift.
He also loves his sports but never has enough sportswear. This Berghaus T Shirt is classed as a Tech Tee which means it wicks sweat away from your body and works to prevent odour causing bacteria, perfect for a work out at the gym or for playing football.
With World Cup fever about to strike and the first match just a few days before Fathers Day getting a football-themed gift could certainly put you in their good books. The Art of Football has lots of amazing football themed clothing and prints for all sorts of different teams so you are bound to find something for the man in your life. To add something sweet this Haribo Football mix is a great addition.
If you are not going to see them over the Fathers Day weekend then it could be a nice surprise to send a gift through the post. If this is the case then take a look at Funky Pigeon where they have a range of personalised cards and gifts as well as lots of other gifts that you can send including socks, chocolates and beer.
