5 top tips to give your small kitchen a makeover

When you have a small kitchen like ours you need to make the most out of the space you have available. Check out these tips on an easy makeover for a small kitchen that will help you utilise space and make it look amazing

Declutter

The first step for any makeover is to declutter the space. Are you really going to use that food processor you have stored on top of the cabinets? If you have not used something in the last six months have a really good think about whether you need it. Your small kitchen will feel a lot bigger with less stuff in it.

Lighten the room

Choose a lovely bright colour to really make the space feel bigger. It might be boring but a magnolia or off-white will really give an illusion of space. If you can tie this in with a mirrored backsplash to reflect the light you will be amazed. Under cupboard LED strip lights are a really cheap way to add more light. They are really easy to install and look great. You could also replace the doors on your kitchen units, Kitchen Warehouse has a great selection of replacement doors.

Clear the floor space

One of the things we really struggle with is floor space. By the time we have the vegetable rack, the bin and the mop bucket there isn’t much space to move. We recently upgraded to a steam mop which now lives in the cupboard under the stairs and got rid of the Vegetable rack in favour of a set of storage baskets in one of the cupboards. This just leaves the bin. We must recycle here so the sort & go built-in bin by Brabantia would be the perfect addition to our small kitchen. There are lots of different options of Brabantia bins available in all shapes and sizes that you should be able to find the right one for your space easily.

Sort the storage

Usually, when you think of storage you think about putting things away in your kitchen units but when you have a small kitchen this can be a problem. This is where sensible storage solutions can really make a difference. Plate racks inside the cupboards add additional space. Pot racks on the walls keep your saucepans from taking up space in the cupboard and you can even hang up your cooking utensils. There are lots of variations from magnets to hooks so just find the one that works for you.

Upgrade your floor

Your whole kitchen can look awful if the floor isn’t up to scratch so this is the one place where you really need to pay attention when you do your makeover. If you can afford it then a nice light wood laminate will be waterproof and easy to clean whilst also giving a look of luxury. If you can’t afford laminate at the moment then just replacing the vinyl or using floor tiles can keep costs low and your kitchen looking fabulous.
